Ayurvedic Consultation

The human body is an extremely complex system. While it does have ways of letting us know when things are not right, it may not seem always seem obvious in what the actual problem is. Therefore, it is possible to experience symptoms for long periods of time without ever knowing what they are caused by i.e. "medically unexplained symptoms".  These can be especially distressing and difficult due to the fact you don't know what is going on with your body.  Such is it that many people have persistent physical symptoms, such as dizziness or pain that don't appear to be caused by a medical condition.   Symptoms often last for more than a few weeks, but doctors can't find a problem with the body that may be the cause.  This does not mean the symptoms are faked or "all in the head" - they're real and can affect your ability to function properly and not understanding the cause can make them even more distressing and difficult to cope with.

According to Ayurveda, all disease and symptoms are initially caused by an imbalance in the digestive fire and/or doshas.  There are stages of disease manifestation and it takes time to get from actual and pre-monitory signs and symptoms to a more chronic stage.  Even so, the body does have ways of letting us know of imbalances early on however sometimes we are just too busy to realise what is going on or we may ignore signs thinking they will go away.

In Ayurveda we believe that by determining the root cause of a problem is paramount to treating it.  If you don't have a cause, you do not have a cure.  The Ayurvedic Practitioner is able to identify the potential causes of any issues and can provide a bespoke healing plan that will include advice on diet as well as some supportive Ayurvedic formula herbs or medicines and some physical therapy treatments such as Abhyangha (Ayurvedic massage).  As Ayurvedic practitioners, we have received extensive training and gained relevant qualifications in this medical science in order to be able to understand and carry out this traditional practice.

The practitioner will be asking questions and listening whilst using various diagnostic methods such direct observation, physical examination, pulse and tongue analysis to assess you as well as taking an extensive personal and medical history. (This may include amongst other matters, an understanding of your diet, your professional life and working conditions, relationships, mental health and physical health).  We will also ask you about specific symptoms, when they started and what makes you feel better or worse.  We will assess how your daily life is affected and the severity of your symptoms and how they make you feel or how they limit you.

You might also consider any medications you are taking in case they are causing your symptoms. Sometimes associated problems such as depression or anxiety can worsen physical symptoms, creating a vicious cycle or you may be suffering from a poorly understood syndrome. If you have experienced recurring symptoms and not felt well for some time, you may have already had blood tests done. This could have already ruled out all the possible health conditions or you may have been given you a proper diagnosis.  In any case, we can also check your test results for you and advise accordingly.

Remember, just because you do not have a "named" condition it does not mean that it is not "real" or that we cannot help you ~ Ayurveda does not need a name of a disorder to treat you. Treatment is based upon actual signs and symptoms and tailored to the individual not the disease ~
